Therapy and Coaching

“Being gifted is like being given a thoroughbred to ride, instead of a nice, comfortable farm horse. It can seem like your mind (which moves too quickly) or your emotions (which are very intense) are the boss of you. You long to achieve (and perhaps you have achieved a great deal) but are tormented by loneliness, stormy moods, lengthy depression or anxiety or a general difficulty with actually accomplishing anything.”

Intelligent Therapy and Informed Coaching

Understanding your strengths and weaknesses in order to move forward

We have a great deal of experience with someone like you, in the midst of a love-hate relationship with your mind.

Or perhaps you doubt that you are gifted at all. Maybe you were in advanced classes in school, or people have told you from time to time that you were really smart, but you are not so sure. As one person put it “I spend half my time trying to decide if I’m gifted or mentally retarded.” Gifted people have very high expectations of themselves. They think they should be good at everything. They feel unusually anxious or ashamed about the mistakes they make. People tell them they “take things too seriously”, that they “should just let it go, relax.” They may wonder why they haven’t accomplished more but on other days they may feel “if I’m so smart, why do I do so many stupid things?”

We can help move out of immobilization. It’s good to come to terms with who you really are, identifying strengths (so you can live out of them) and seeing weaknesses clearly (so you can accommodate for them), moving forward without the heavy baggage and negative experiences.

Sometimes gifted adults know who they are and are not particularly tormented by anything. They just want to be “something more.” Perhaps they have been helping a child develop their giftedness and they yearn for more growth themselves. One parent said “I think it’s my turn now. How can I model healthy gifted adulthood, if I’m not living it myself?”

We love adventures of all kinds and are happy to be your Sherpa on the next chapter in your life. Coaching gifted adults to set goals, attain greater peacefulness and live life with more satisfaction is something we do everyday. Ask us how we can help you define your “next step.”
